Alcohol Addiction

Alcoholic drinks are those that contains ethanol or alcohol. This kind of drink depresses the central nervous system and is known to reduce pain, relieves stress, anxiety and fear. Alcohols are, almost always, present in every social occasions and gatherings. 7 out of every fridge contains one or more alcoholic drinks. There are three groups of alcohol. These are beers, wines, and spirits. In small amounts, it gives temporary sense of confidence, courage, calmness and heightened self-esteem. In large dosage, it impairs judgment, slows bodily coordination, causes nausea and vertigo. People under the influence of alcohol oftentimes do things that they surely won’t do when sober.

There have already been a lot of arrests due to alcoholic drinks. It is an offense when driving while under the influence of alcohol as this freezes the nerves that send signals to the brain which results to slowing the reaction time and the impairment of one’s judgment. A lot of domestic violence and abuse can be also blamed to uncontrolled alcohol consumption. Even thefts, burglaries, vandalizing, damaging public properties and some others are blamed on alcohol consumptions.

Addiction is the state of being physically, psychologically and mentally enslaved into something to the point where its absence causes great and deep disturbance and reaction to the user. Alcohol addiction is the compulsive urge to drink alcohol at excessive amounts despite the obvious negative effect to the drinker’s health and relationships with his family and the people around him.

One’s genes has been blamed to cause alcohol addiction. There are people who can take more amounts of alcohol than others. These people are known to have a high tolerance. Individuals who have the high probability to get into alcohol addiction are those who have cases of alcohol addiction in their family.

There is no single explanation as to what drives someone to drink alcohol more than his body could take. Some says, it just a matter of self-discipline, the act of ending the taking in of alcohol when you’re just about to get tipsy. Some just wanted to drink to have fun. There are also people who drink during special occasions to mingle with colleagues, friends and families.

Since drinking alcoholic drinks has become as mundane as breathing, it’s hard to determine whether people are still safe-drinking or is already on the verge of being alcoholic dependents. If we look deeper, we’ll probably find more profound reasons as to why people get addicted to alcohols. In most cases, people who get addicted to alcohols are those who have unsettled issues or those who are mentally and psychologically struggling to keep up with life’s fast-paced hurdles. People who find it hard to recover are those who lack confidence and those fails on some aspects of their lives.

Since alcoholic drinks are readily available, alcohol dependents can be as young as an 8-year old boy or as old as an 90-year old individual. These people can be anyone.

Discrimination should never be present if you chance upon people who are into alcohol addiction. Help and understanding should rather be present. Understanding and accepting that someone is alcohol dependent is the first step to a successful recovery and treatment. And just like any other kinds of addiction, alcohol addiction is definitely curable. There are already a lot of alcohol rehabilitation Centers available which caters and helps people recover from their alcohol dependency.
